Welcome to
ASAHIYAMA ZOO

There are many unique interactive animal viewing facilities here at Japan's northernmost zoo.
Our exhibition policy:
To provide an environment where each species can use their abilities and a space where each animal can relax.
Here is an introduction of some exhibits made based on this policy.

A spotted seal is an animal that swims to the surface in a vertical direction. There is a vertical water tank so that it can make use of that characteristic. They have interest in the audience and pass the tunnel from themselfs.
Like this, they can come and go freely from the tunnel to the large pool during the water.
The tunnel is connected with
the large pool in top and bottom.
A penguin swims as if flying in the water. There is a tunnel in the water to show that way of flying.
Do you know the way that a polar bear swims? There is a big water tank to see how they swim.
A polar bear attacks the seal which comes out from under the drift ice. There is a capsule to experience a seal's viewpoint.

A Borneo orangutan is an animal that lives in trees. There is a rope at a height of 17m so that that ability can be shown.

The cat species has a habit of sleeping in trees. We thought of how to make the animals sleep pleasantly.
